Resolving Jetpack connection issues – a guide for new Jetpack users

Jetpack is one of my favorite “corners” of any WordPress-powered website. A plugin developed by Automattic, Jetpack is a power tool that can help you design, maintain, and grow your website.

While it comes packed with features, the detailed traffic analysis is one of my favorite Jetpack features as it makes growing and improving your website much easier. However, in today’s post, we aren’t going to talk about Jetpack’s features but the troubles it may give you.

Here are some easy ways to fix Jetpack connection issues

In this piece, we will look into some of the easy methods you can use to address Jetpack connection issues that may be troubling you.

1- The debug tool does it all for you!

Run the Jetpack debug tool to identify and fix the issues. Simply head over to this link and either select your website from the drop down menu OR manually type your website’s address. Once you run debug, it will tell you what the problem is and how to fix it. For example, for one of my sites, it showed the following error and workaround:

2- XML-RPC – what the **** is it!!!

The above screenshot brings us to one of the most common Jetpack connection issues – the XML-RPC. This file is required for Jetpack to connect to Run the following two tests to fix the issue:

  1. In the address bar on your browser, type yoursiteURL/xmlrpc.php. This should display the following message as it. Screenshot 2019-02-11 at 10.42.49 PM.png
  2. Once done, head over to XML-RPC Validation Service (click here) and enter your website’s URL. You are good to okay if you see the following message:  Screenshot 2019-02-11 at 10.45.49 PM

3- EASIEST fix ever!

One of the easiest ways to fix almost anything-tech is to turn things off and on. Just like your smartphone, your favorite app, and your favorite gadget, just uninstall > reinstall > reconnect Jetpack to fix the issues.

4- Other Jetpack connection fixes

If none of the above helped you fix Jetpack connection issues, you should also consider looking at the following:

  • Check for any theme issues
  • Plugin issues
